2009 Gathering of Leaders
A new administration is in office. Our country is facing a down economy. Citizens are demonstrating an enduring desire to be a part of change. Seizing this moment to support the development of the new Social Innovation Agenda is imperative for 2009.
The fifth annual Gathering of Leaders brought together a set of remarkable leaders who shared their experiences and lessons learned with more than 170 Gathering participants. The objective? Exploring the opportunities for the Gathering community in this new era of social innovation.
Speakers at the 2009 Gathering included District of Columbia Mayor Adrian Fenty and Newark Mayor Cory Booker; DC Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee; chief community organizer from the Obama campaign, Marshall Ganz; and CityBridge Foundation President and Founder Katherine Bradley.
Recognizing as well that we must all remain committed to helping our organizations thrive during these times, sessions also focused on enhancing leadership capacity, building sound revenue models, and delivering high-quality outcomes at scale.
Fortune 500 PepsiCo CEO and Chairman Indra Nooyi, shared her perspective on building strong and diverse leadership teams.
Clarence Otis Jr. (Darden Restaurants), another Fortune 500 CEO, shared his own story of service as well as his lessons on leadership.
Additional speakers included United States Army Major General Thomas Bostick, the Monitor Group's Jim Cutler, William Foster of Bridgespan, and Jean Martin of the Corporate Executive Board, to name just a few.
