In this reflection on the founding of Genesys Works Founder and CEO Rafael Alvarez describes his personal call to action. When results from early studies indicated that Genesys Works was changing the life trajectories of the students it served, Rafael might have celebrated—but he didn’t. He knew that to have the greatest impact, Genesys Works needed to engage schools, businesses, and nonprofits across the country to create an environment in which the Genesys Works model could be scaled to reach every child.

This vision, Rafael declares, should be the goal of every social entrepreneur. Social entrepreneurs not only change the lives of clients, but work to solve social problems.
